JENNIFER LEIB
Jennifer Leib is a founding partner of HealthFutures. She
brings to this role an extensive background in the
scientific, clinical and public policy related issues in
modern healthcare.
As a board-certified genetic counselor, Jennifer has over
five years of clinical research experience at the National
Institutes of Health. Prior to the launch of HealthFutures,
she served as the Director of Government Relations & Public
Policy for Affymetrix, Inc., where she advocated for genetic
privacy protections, advances in personalized medicine,
expansion of stem cell research, and increased funding for
biomedical research. She was a lead advocate and strategist
for the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the
Genomics and Personalized Medicine Act, and the Laboratory
Test Improvement Act. She also worked closely with the
company’s internationally respected efforts to bring
standardized protocols to the collection and use of genetic
information and co-organized its highly successful Genetic
Age Symposium series aimed at fostering greater public
awareness of policy issues in the life sciences.
Jennifer also spent two years working as a Senior
Legislative Fellow in Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s Health Policy
Office, where she focused on a wide variety of issues
including public health preparedness, biomedical research,
and agency oversight. She completed the prestigious National
Human Genome Research Institute/American Society of Human
Genetics’ Genetics and Public Policy Fellowship, which gave
her the opportunity to work in the Office of the Director at
NHGRI, assisting Dr. Francis Collins and his policy staff,
including organizing a roundtable on the direct-to-consumer
marketing of genetic tests, analyzing legislation, and
drafting reports to Congress.
Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with High
Distinction and Honors in Sociology from the University of
Michigan and completed her graduate training at the Johns
Hopkins University/National Human Genome Research Institute
Genetic Counseling Program. She has publications in premiere
medical journals and has had the opportunity to present her
research and lecture on genomics policy and ethics at
professional conferences, graduate classes, and state bar
reviews. In 2007, Jennifer was awarded the Leading Voice
Award from the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
