JENNIFER LEIB

Jennifer Leib is a founding partner of HealthFutures. She brings to this role an extensive background in the scientific, clinical and public policy related issues in modern healthcare.

As a board-certified genetic counselor, Jennifer has over five years of clinical research experience at the National Institutes of Health. Prior to the launch of HealthFutures, she served as the Director of Government Relations & Public Policy for Affymetrix, Inc., where she advocated for genetic privacy protections, advances in personalized medicine, expansion of stem cell research, and increased funding for biomedical research. She was a lead advocate and strategist for the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the Genomics and Personalized Medicine Act, and the Laboratory Test Improvement Act. She also worked closely with the company’s internationally respected efforts to bring standardized protocols to the collection and use of genetic information and co-organized its highly successful Genetic Age Symposium series aimed at fostering greater public awareness of policy issues in the life sciences.

Jennifer also spent two years working as a Senior Legislative Fellow in Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s Health Policy Office, where she focused on a wide variety of issues including public health preparedness, biomedical research, and agency oversight. She completed the prestigious National Human Genome Research Institute/American Society of Human Genetics’ Genetics and Public Policy Fellowship, which gave her the opportunity to work in the Office of the Director at NHGRI, assisting Dr. Francis Collins and his policy staff, including organizing a roundtable on the direct-to-consumer marketing of genetic tests, analyzing legislation, and drafting reports to Congress.

Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with High Distinction and Honors in Sociology from the University of Michigan and completed her graduate training at the Johns Hopkins University/National Human Genome Research Institute Genetic Counseling Program. She has publications in premiere medical journals and has had the opportunity to present her research and lecture on genomics policy and ethics at professional conferences, graduate classes, and state bar reviews. In 2007, Jennifer was awarded the Leading Voice Award from the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
